“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Isaiah 9:6-7

This is a prophecy about our Saviour’s birth – commonly read at Christmas – but it’s not only that. It is also explaining what the Kingdom of God looks like for all time. So, what do all of these titles mean to us today?

Wonderful Counsellor
Have you ever looked outside and been in awe? A beautiful sunrise? Tall trees? Singing birds? If the created things bring us to awe and wonder, imagine the wonder of God.

Not only does His wonder through the beauty of nature but also how He nurtures each creature in the way that they need it. That includes us. He will nurture not only our physical being but also our mind and soul.

Mighty God
As a kid I remember getting into a fight and just at the right time, my step-brother intervened and got the bully to back down. He was a hero that day. In life we need interventions from those that are more powerful than us. God has ALL power in the universe and steps in to be our ultimate hero.

Everlasting Father
When being asked how to pray, Jesus taught His followers to pray to their Father. While many other faith systems are set up for humanity to serve a god for their approval, we believe in a God who loves us like a father. The role of a father (or more broadly parent) is to both provide for the physical needs of their children as well as to cultivate maturity in them. In my life, I have seen time and time again that God has both provided for my needs; whether safety or employment for example. I have also seen over the years how many times God has given me new measures of wisdom, insight and discernment.

Prince of Peace
It is important to know in these challenging times that God is with us and brings peace with His presence. When the Prince of Peace arrives into our hearts we have the opportunity to find Peace with God, Peace with Humanity and Peace within ourselves.

I don’t know which attribute of God you need most today but my encouragement is to LEAN in to all that God wants to do in your life.
